"Sari Soldiers" a documentary from Nepal on how women participated on both sides of the revolution. Filmmaker Julie Bridgham will be present. "Bliss" a drama from Turkey about honor killing.

Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest will host a reception honoring Julie Bridgham, filmmaker of "Sari Soldiers,” at a special pre-opening at The Friesen Gallery, 391 First Avenue North.

Saturday, Feb. 27 - 7 p.m.

"Mrs. Goundo's Daughter," a documentary from Mali about a woman seeking political asylum in the U.S. so that her daughter will not undergo FGM (female genital mutilation). Filmmakers Barbara Attie and Janet Goldwater will be present. This screening is underwritten by a grant from the Perenchio Family of Ketchum.

Sunday, Feb. 28 - 3 p.m.

"The Maid" a drama from Chile about a woman in the only legitimate job available to most women in her world. The film was nominated for best film in the recent Golden Globes Award.

Sunday, Feb. 28 - 7 p.m.

"Lemon Tree," a drama from Israel about a Palestinian woman and an Israeli woman. The filmmaker, Eran Riklis, will be in attendance. This film is underwritten by grants from Ann Down and Bex Wilkinson both of the Wood River Valley.

OTHER EVENTS

February 10: Screening of the BBC series, Women on the Frontline, about violence toward women, followed by a panel discussion with members of the Wood River Valley Interfaith Leaders Association at the Community School Auditorium:  Co-sponsored by The Advocates.

February 17: Screening of the Emmy winning documentary, "A Walk to Beautiful", at the Community Library at 6 PM.

February 24: Lecture by Dr. Hailegiorgis Aytenfisu, featured in the film, "A Walk to Beautiful", at the Community Library at 6 PM. Dr. Aytenfisu's appearance is sponsored by the St. Luke's Foundation Wood River.

February 27: Special pre-opening preview: Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest will hold a reception from 5:30 to 7, honoring Julie Bridgham, filmmaker of "Sari Soldiers" at the Cornerstone Bar and Grill, 211 Main Street.
